Boloria: Olivier Theyskens' New Fashion Label | Spring 2027 Collection Review (2026)

Boloria Spring 2027: A Designer's Dreamy Revival

Olivier Theyskens, the Belgian fashion visionary, has unveiled his latest creation, Boloria, a brand that promises to captivate the luxury market with its timeless allure. This project, a collaboration with Tomorrowland's parent company, We Are One World, marks a significant return to the spotlight for the designer, who is known for his melancholic and romantic aesthetics.

A Century-Old Fantasy

The name Boloria is inspired by a subspecies of brush-footed butterflies, a term first identified in 1899. Theyskens' vision for the brand is a nod to the past, with a focus on creating a timeless, century-old fantasy. He spent two years meticulously crafting every detail, from the subtle squared-off outsole of women's pumps to the delicate, uneven rows of beads on lace skirts. Even the serif font on the clothing labels exudes an air of academic sophistication.

The Row Meets Rimbaud

The collection can be described as a fusion of The Row's luxury and the poetic spirit of Arthur Rimbaud. The clothes are designed for connoisseurs, blending melancholia and romance, two of Theyskens' signature elements. During a preview, he showcased original sketches, technical drawings, and fabric swatches, featuring a stunning array of satins, tweeds, silks, Korean air fabric, and lace in tawny shades and black and white.

A Surrealist Journey

The show began with dark, bulging gowns, reminiscent of the dramatic styles that caught Madonna's attention and propelled Theyskens to fame in the late 1990s. These gowns were described as allegories of dreams, a surrealist moment. The collection then transitioned to young male models draped in fabrics, as if they had emerged from their bedsheets. The menswear showcased a retro feel with a modern twist, utilizing light, lustrous, and papery fabrics.

Androgynous Elegance

The womenswear collection featured a blend of androgynous suiting and siren gowns in satin or bias-cut silk. The darkened space, enhanced by fog-filled black boxes, added a dramatic touch, suggesting inner turmoil. Theyskens' inspiration came from imagining the everyday lives of Boloria people from different decades, blending past and present in a unique way.

A Collaboration with Tomorrowland

Theyskens' prior knowledge of Tomorrowland, an electronic music festival, was limited until he met the founding brothers, Michiel and Manu Beers. Their shared passions for creativity, storytelling, authenticity, and craftsmanship sparked a creative synergy. The collaboration with We Are One World, the company behind Tomorrowland, has energized Theyskens, allowing him to work out of its headquarters in Antwerp.

A Dream Come True

Boloria's fashion designs are a far cry from the festival merchandise, showcasing dignity and ultra-refinement. The collaboration with Tomorrowland proves the Beers' status as dreamers, and it remains to be seen how this partnership will shape the future of fashion and music festivals.
